A replacement means a donor willing to donate blood in
exchange of some blood required by someone. Internationally, the
practice of replacement is strongly discouraged for two reasons. The
first possibility is that the replacement donor is a relative of the
patient in need of blood if the donor is a relative of the patient,
there is a very high probability that the donor may want to hide some
vital information regarding his / her status as a potential donor. The
second possibility is the donor is a paid donor, mostly paid by the
relatives of the patient. Paid donors too fall in the high-risk zone.
Hence, at Life Blood Centre we follow this international practice of putting patient safety first and do not accept replacement.
